About

Born in Italy, and raised in the United Kingdom, Connor Baiano is a British-Italian bass who graduated from the Royal Academy of Music (RAM/RAO) with an Advanced Diploma in Opera in 2021, where he studied under Mark Wildman and Ingrid Surgenor. From there he went on to study for a year at Mascarade Opera Studio (MOS) in Florence, Italy, before becoming an artist of Mascarade Emerging Artists (MEA) in 2022 - the first year of their new two-year training and development programme.

Connor’s recent operatic performances include Luka in Walton’s The Bear (MOS), Dulcamara in scenes from Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore (MEA), Colline in scenes from Puccini’s La Bohème (MEA), Selim in scenes from Rossini’s Il Turco in Italia (MEA), Father Trulove in scenes from Stravinky’s The Rake’s Progress (MEA), and Don Pasquale in scenes from the Donizetti opera (MEA). Other fully performed roles include Don Alfonso – Cosi fan tutte (RAO), Peter Quince – A Midsummer Night’s Dream (RAO), Sarastro – Die Zauberflöte (RAO, as well as covering the role at Longborough Festival Opera), Colline – La Bohème (Clonter Opera), Bertrand – Iolanta (RAO), and the roles of Lakai and Truffaldin – Ariadne auf Naxos (Berlin Opera Academy). In 2020 he was billed to sing Superintendent Budd in Albert Herring (RAO), however this was cancelled due to the pandemic. He has also performed scenes as Mustafa in L’Italiana in Algeri (RAO), the Water Gnome in Rusalka (RAO), Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni (RAM), Pistola in Falstaff (Royal Northern College of Music), and First Lieutenant in Billy Budd (Royal Northern College of Music).

At Mascarade Emerging Artists, Connor works closely with the Heads of Music Julia Lynch and Jonathan Papp. His other education includes a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours at the Royal Northern College of Music, a Master of Arts at the Royal Academy of Music, and he holds a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music.
